The razor
Gotta razors were made in Solingen by Grah & Plümacher, and the 120 is one of the best known. This one dates to around the 1920s–30s, possibly as late as the 1940s. The steel on these is exceptional and takes a very keen edge.
This one carries the Hamburg Ring etch, with its gilding and etching well preserved, and it comes in its original box, printed The Gotta Razor, Real German Full Hollow Ground. At 5/8″ it’s a lovely size, and it would make an excellent daily shaving razor.
What’s included
- The razor
- Its original Gotta box
Restoration and condition
Restored with its original scales. I’ve re-profiled the heel. The blade is snug, opens and closes smoothly and centres well.
There’s some patina on the non-etched side of the blade, visible in the close-up photos.
Honing
Finished on a Japanese natural stone, then stropped and sanitised, ready to shave.
The stone shown in the photos isn’t included.
