A vintage English two-sided hanging strop, with its gilt Scorcher badge, swivel hook and stitched leather handle. The Finish side was pasted with chromium oxide (CrOx) at some point in its past. Well used, with the patina to show it.

About it
Strops like this once hung by the basin in barbershops and bathrooms. The Scorcher No. A202 was made in England: the badge at the top carries its name and number in gilt, and the handle is stamped Made in England.
It’s two-sided, stamped Sharpen and Finish. At some point in its working life, the Finish side was pasted with chromium oxide (CrOx), a very fine polishing compound. That side gives a little more polish to the edge than plain leather; the Sharpen side is plain leather for everyday stropping.
The leather has the dark, even patina of years of use. A strop like this is meant to be used.
